Town
It is a delight to take a walk in the town´s historic centre, perfectly conserved, and to discover the great macro-museum formed by the buildings. It seems to take us into
another time, with cobbled alleys, walls hundreds of years old, Moorish trellis-work, heraldic shields and ancient manorial homes.
Beach
Coves of transparent and quiet water (La Fuster, Pinets, La Lobella, Advocat, Baladar) are cut into the cliffs along four kilometres of coastline. The mildness of the climate, refreshing in summer and temperate in
winter, makes it possible to live in a year-round spring-time.
Sports
Lovers of golf and horse riding have clubs available to practice these sports. Water sports fans can use the yacht club facilities for windsurfing, catamaran sailing, kayak canoeing, dinghy sailing, water-skiing or
jet-ski riding. Benissa´s bay are excellent for underwater sports including diving and undersea photography. Fishing is carried out on the Platgeta de L´Advocat beach where there is a small quay for sailing boats.
Installations at the Palau Sant Pere sports centre complete the offer.
Nature
Rural districts such as Pinos at the foot of the Bernia mountain range – or Pedramala – near the coast – show the contrasts of landscapes offered by Benissa. The
Sierra de Bernia is the ideal backdrop for mountain walking.
Fiestas and culture
We should highlight the great devotion shown to its patron saint, the Purissima Xiqueta, to whom it dedicates its main fiestas on the fourth Sunday in April. For twenty
days in Januray there is the traditional “Fira I Porrat de Sant Antoni”. The Moors and Christians fiestas are held in the last week of June in honour of San Pedro. The many rural districts
celebrate their fiestas throughout summer.
