Atzuvia-Forna

In Atzuvia there is a wide range of interesting visits such as the “Cova de Canalobres” or “Cova de L´Atzuvia” that offers us nature in its pure state.  After visiting this cave we go again to the CV-700 and turn left towards Forna where there is an impressive medieval Knight Templar castle in a good state of conservation.  

We continue our journey towards Forna and in the town square we can go into a small cave where there is a Roman fountain.

From Forna we go back to the CV 700 heading inland and continue towards the Vall de Gallinera.

La Vall de la Gallinera

These lands were populated during the Moslem occupation and the remains can still be admired today at the castles of Benirrama and Benissili.

The first village we reach is Benirrama, built on a small hill.  We can breath quietly in its narrow streets.  From behind the school we can climb to the castle of Benirrama (11^th – 12 th centuries).  Before arriving at the castle we will across the Mata de Benirrama fountain that springs from sheltered cave on the edge of the village.

As we leave Benirrama on our way to Beniali we will see on our right the Alcudia fountain.  We continue our journey in the direction of Beniali.  Walking through the streets of this quiet village we will come to the church of Cristo de la Providencia in the lower part of the town and on the same road there is the town hall of La Vall de la Gallinera.

The next village is Benissiva, where we will find the San Miguel Arcangel parish church.  Then there is Benitaia, with just three streets.  Five minutes away, near the Franciscan convent, there is a type of open-air oratory.  On the way to La Carroja we can stop at the Mirador de la Vall viewing point and when we arrive in La Carroja we can visit its old town, the ancient wash-house and the church of San Francisco de Borja.

In the streets of Alpatro we will find the narrow bell-tower of the parish church La Asuncion de Nueatra Senora and we can visit an ancient oil-mill restored by the Friends of the La Vall de Gallinera.  Near this welcoming village there is the fountain of La Mata de Benissili, a perfect place to rest after touring its streets and visiting the castle of Benissili (11^th and 13^th centuries), the last redoubt to surrender to King Jaime 1.

La Vall d´Alcala

We continue towards La Vall d´Alcala and reach Beniaia where there are remains of Moorish buildings and we must visit the ancient wash-house.  Next comes Alcala de la Jovada where we can see a fountain with the figure of the only Moslem commander who dared to challenge Jaime 1, Al-Zarach.

Going back to the road, within a few metres we find “La Nevera de Baix”, an ancient snow-conserving well.  It seems the ancient inhabitants of this area made blocks of ice to preserve their food and sold them in Denia to keep the fish.  But further up we find “La Nevera Dalt”, remains of a Moslem castle and a prehistoric culture.

We arrive at the Cova del Rull.  There, a guide is waiting to show us around this mysterious cave and explain the curious story of its discovery.

La Vall d´Ebo

Once in La Vall d´Ebo we can visit the Ethnological Museum with an exhibition of tools and curiosities.  Walking through the streets of Ebo we will come across the baroque style church from the end of the 16^th century.  Inside it houses the beautiful 17^th century carving of the Virgen de los Desamparados, of the school of Vergara.
