The Easter Fair will fill the streets of the Old Town of Javea with handicraft and entertainment. The market with over 70 artisan stalls will open on Good Friday morning

28th March 2012

This morning the Xàbia Histórica Business Association presented its most iconic event of the year: The Easter Craft Fair. The president of the association, Sisco Vallés, stressed that this market is the oldest handicraft market of the region and as a nod to its origins, this year it will include demonstrations of the ambrotype photographic technique (an early photographic process) by the Agrupació Fotogràfica de Xàbia and a printing and book-binding workshop with the cooperation of the Cirne Cultural Foundation.
The manager of Xàbia Histórica, Jaume Serra, explained the details of the Easter fair programme, which will open this year on Good Friday at 1.00 pm and will remain open all morning, afternoon and evening until Easter Monday at 2.00 pm. The opening will feature the music of the colla Xirimitab's and from 6.00pm on Friday evening the children will be able to enjoy the Rodamons Theatre telling stories of the Brothers Grimm (in Valenciano or Spanish).

In addition to the 70 stalls filled with leather crafts, glass, wood, crystals and food distributed throughout the plaza del Convent, Calle Mayor and plaza de Baix, during the entire fair there will be continuous entertainment activities and free workshops for children and adults. On Saturday there will be a chocolate workshop, a photography demonstration, a puppet show, a parade by the Colla Portitxol and Nanos, a printing workshop, minstrels and ballad singers, as well as musical entertainment by the Romàntica del Saladar.

On Easter Sunday, the fair will feature the addition of stalls in the church square, where clubs and associations will sell traditional products and snacks. The organisers of the fair have also scheduled a leather workshop, a performance by the Grup de Danses Portitxol, storytelling and a performance that combines Brazilian-Argentine jazz and folk. On Monday, the final day, the last workshops scheduled in the morning include bookbinding, the flora and fauna of the Montgo and Japanese raku pottery.

Juan Luis Cardona, Javea Councillor for Economic Development, highlighted that this Easter fair, in addition to being a forerunner in the region, is also a pioneer in the fact that it is organized entirely by the business association, which further differentiates it from similar fairs in nearby municipalities. Cardona stressed that this Easter Fair, in addition to filling up the streets, shops and bars of the Old Town, is also a major tourist attraction, thanking the business association for their collaboration.
Finally, the Councillor all the local residents, visitors and residents of other nearby municipalities to visit the fair and take part in the multitude of activities, which will also be promoted in other parts of Javea such as the Arenal promenade.
